Govt homes in on online crimes

China has stepped up its campaign against online crimes including the dissemination of false rumors and pornography in the past week.

A Beijing court sentenced Qin Zhihui, known online as "Qinhuohuo", to three years in prison on Thursday for defaming celebrities and the government.

Earlier in the week, Charles Xue, also known as Xue Manzi to his 12 million followers on Sina Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter, apologized to the public for spreading online rumors.
