Industry sails to calmer waters

By Li Fusheng | China Daily | Updated: 2014-03-26 08:34

After a rollercoaster journey in 2013, China's MICE industry is expected to recover gradually from this year on, said experts and industry insiders.

The acronym MICE refers to meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions. It is a type of tourism in which large groups are brought together for a particular purpose.

China's MICE market started to gain momentum in 2008 and grew rapidly in the next four years. However, it slowed down after the central government initiated its anti-extravagance campaign in late 2012 and plunged when the GSK bribery scandal was exposed in July 2013.
