A birthday recital for J.S.Bach

The 329th birth anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach may not strike many people as a very significant anniversary, but for Bach scholars and musicians who admire the composer, the day deserves celebration. As China's leading Bach interpreter, renowned Chinese pianist Sheng Yuan (pictured above) will give a recital in Beijing, performing Bach's Partita in C Minor, Partita No 4 in D Major and Partita No 5 in G Major. Born into a musical family, Sheng studied at Manhattan School of Music with Bach specialist Rosalyn Tureck. His interpretations of Bach's works have gained him international fame.

7:30 pm, March 21. Forbidden City Concert Hall, inside Zhongshan Park, west of Tian'anmen Square, Xicheng district, Beijing. 010-6585-5755.
