Thanks to encouraging policies and the setting of successful examples, investors are happily seeking opportunities in hospitals, although they face challenges.

In October, the State Council released a guideline on promoting the development of the healthcare services industry. For instance, social funds can participate in the restructuring of public hospitals.

In November, Phoenix Healthcare Group went public in Hong Kong. It is the first hospital-concept share in China backed by private equity funds. Its closing price on the first day of trading was 36 percent higher than its issue price. Its main businesses involve providing management services for public hospitals and selling medicine and equipment use at them.
