11 killed in attack on police in Xinjiang

Eleven people were killed after they attacked police patrol vehicles in Wushi county in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region on Friday afternoon, the region's information office said.

A group driving cars that carried explosive devices attacked the patrol vehicles at about 4 pm in southwestern Xinjiang's Aksu prefecture.

Eight of the attackers, who were also armed with knives, were shot dead by police, and three committed suicide by blowing themselves up. One suspect was arrested.
