House of literature rebuilt

A collection of buildings constructed in traditional Chinese architectural style has been rebuilt in Danling county, Sichuan province, to house tablets with the poems of Du Fu (AD 712-770), one of the greatest poets in the history of Chinese literature. In 1100, the so-called Great Hall of Elegance was built in the county to house some 300 tablets with Du's poems in the calligraphy of Huang Tingjian (1045-1105), a great poet and calligrapher in the Northern Song Dynasty (AD 960-1127). Over the ensuing dynasties, many famous poems, essays, calligraphy works and paintings about the hall were collected there. But the hall was destroyed in a war in the late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The new hall will open to the public on Jan 25.
