Peacock lanterns go for record

Made from more than 400,000 crystal bottles, a set of lanterns in the shape of two gigantic peacocks in Deyang, Sichuan province, are being promoted for inclusion in the Guinness World Records. Together with more than 100 pairs of large and medium-sized lanterns, the peacock lanterns with a height of 20 meters, will be on display as part of the 11th Deyang Lantern Show, which runs from Jan 24 to March 2. Spread across a 3-kilometer long route by the Xuan-zhu Lake in Deyang, the lanterns represent the history, culture and industry of the industrial city, which was upgraded from county to city status 31 years ago.
