Chan remembers a legend

The latest film in Jackie Chan's Police Story franchise, New Police Story 2013, has grossed more than 450 million yuan ($71 million). At a party in Beijing on Jan 7 to celebrate the box-office success, Chan paid tribute to Sir Run Run Shaw, who passed away that same day. It was in Golden Lotus, a 1974 film produced by Shaw, that Chan had his first small film role. Chan says he had many memories of the film and of the TV mogul and philanthropist. Chan recalled how Shaw once picked him up from the airport and took him to the Peninsula Hotel in his own Rolls-Royce. "I was only 21 or 22 and marveled at his car. He told me, 'one day you will be able to afford this'," Chan recalls. Chan said he had sent his condolences to Shaw's family and would attend the memorial in Hong Kong.
