In a move to reduce the use of public vehicles, government staff in a city in Fujian province are required to use bicycles for work-related transit within 3 km of the office.

The regulation from Haicang district government in Xiamen took effect on Jan 1 after a pilot program was undertaken in November.

Under the regulation, employees of government departments, Party organs and State-owned enterprises should use bicycles or walk when conducting public affairs within the specified distance limit.
