China urges dialogue to resolve conflict

China called on all parties in the South Sudan conflict to cease hostilities immediately and resolve their differences through dialogue and consultation.

Vice-Foreign Minister Zhang Ming said on Tuesday that Beijing is highly concerned about the situation in the country and worried about the conflicts.

"The most important task for South Sudan is to concentrate on construction and development. The conflict has not only hurt South Sudan's economy, but also influenced the member countries of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development as well as regional peace and stability," Zhang said during a meeting with diplomats from Sudan and IGAD member states.

Zhang said China has always supported African countries to solve their problems through the "African way". China highly appreciates the IGAD's effort in sending a mediator group to South Sudan, and hopes that the IGAD can urge the parties of the conflict to remain calm and exercise restraint.

"China will help promote peace talks and is willing to cooperate with the IGAD, African Union and international society to restore order and stability in South Sudan as soon as possible," Zhang said.
