Dialogue urged to end fighting

China Daily | Updated: 2013-12-24 07:16

China said on Monday that it is mediating with South Sudan's feuding parties in its "own way".

Beijing is maintaining close communication with South Sudan, its neighboring countries and regional organizations such as the African Union, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a regular news briefing.

"We will work with all parties to help the conflicting sides solve their disputes through dialogue, and help South Sudan resume stability as soon as possible," Hua said.

South Sudanese President Salva Kiir met Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan Ma Qiang on Saturday and briefed him on the latest situation in the country, according to a news release on Monday.

Ma called for early and unconditional political dialogue to solve differences through peaceful means, said the news release on the website of Chinese embassy in South Sudan.

Ma also asked the South Sudanese government to take measures to ensure Chinese nationals and organizations are safe in the country.
