Forum aims to protect festivals

The Seminar on Safeguarding Traditional Festivals was held recently in Chaozhou and Foshan, in Guangdong province. Experts from the Ministry of Culture, Chinese National Academy of Arts, and scholars from China and nearly 20 other countries attended the seminar and carried out field research. Participants discussed the current situation of traditional Chinese festivals and the dissemination of Chinese culture overseas through activities of Spring Festival, especially the Happy Spring Festival events which bring traditional Chinese culture and arts from more than 20 provinces to different countries. The seminar organizer, the International Training Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region, was established in Beijing last year under the auspices of UNESCO and based at the Chinese National Academy of Arts.
