Educational equity is an important foundation of social equity, and equal opportunity is essential to educational equity, therefore the Chinese government has been paying great attention to the school access issue for students from impoverished families.

In 2012, the national student financial aid policy system in China was further enhanced, the State's funding for student aid increased substantially, and the level of student aid improved significantly.
