Once-disused Dahuangdi becomes modern village

By Xu Xiao | China Daily | Updated: 2013-10-29 07:27

The village of Dahuangdi means "large wasteland". It got the name because it was sited on a large uncultivated expanse.

But three years after it was designated as a pilot in environmental improvement by the Jilin provincial government, fundamental changes have taken place in the village in Changyi district, Jilin city.

Large areas of disused ground have turned to be fertile farmland for growing crops, especially rice.
