Beijing hails russian proposal
Beijing supports and welcomes Moscow's latest proposals on the Syrian issue, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Zhai Jun told a visiting Syrian delegation on Thursday, emphasizing that a political resolution is the "only realistic" way out.
The Syrian All-Nation Union for Dialogue delegation visited Beijing at the invitation of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs. "China empathizes with the Syrian people's suffering, and respects the will and choice of the Syrian people," Zhai said. Beijing opposes any use of chemical weapons, or military interference in Syria by external forces, and supports and welcomes the proposals made by Russia in recent days, Zhai said.
The union comprises representatives of opposition organizations in Syria and pro-government figures. Beijing expects the union to make full use of its advantages, exert greater influence on the Syrian government and opposition, support the second international conference in Geneva and create conditions for initiating an inclusive political dialogue in Syria, Zhai said.
