The proportion of young people who believe that being physically attractive can give them a competitive edge in society, according to a poll conducted by China Youth Daily. The survey, whose results were released on Wednesday, also found that more than half of the respondents said they have considered undergoing plastic surgery. Nearly 60 percent attributed this intention to social values that elevate one's appearance. The newspaper interviewed 17,702 people, most of them under the age of 33.
