Carter eyes 4th visit to pyongyang
Former US president Jimmy Carter has visited the Democratic Peoples' Republic of Korea three times. Here is a brief list of the visits.
In June 1994, Jimmy Carter met then-top leader Kim Il-sung in Pyongyang.
In August 2010, Carter visited Pyongyang as a private citizen and secured the release of US citizen Aijalon Mahli Gomes, who was jailed for illegally crossing the country's border.
In April 2011, Carter, with the former leaders of Ireland, Norway and Finland, visited the DPRK to reduce high tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
