The Red Cross Society of China is at the center of another controversy after its Gansu branch announced it had helped transfer 1,900 boxes of bottled water worth 194,400 yuan ($31,700) - an average of 102 yuan per box - to quake-hit areas in Gansu province. The high value aroused suspicion among netizens, since one bottle of water generally costs 1 to 2 yuan. In response, the society said the water was donated by a bottled water company and the value was determined by market prices.
