Former gymnast invests in showbiz future
Liu Xuan, a former Olympic champion of gymnastics, has signed up with InLook Vision Media to start her career in the entertainment industry. Liu's studio, in partnership with InLook, deals with filmmaking, management of artists and charity affairs. Liu, 34, has just won top place at a Chinese version of Dancing with the Stars. She is now planning a film about dancing, and working with a cosmetics brand she endorses on a charity campaign for autistic children. Liu joined the National Gymnastics Team when she was 13 and won her Olympic gold medal in 2000.
Famous voices for animated film
Domestic animated film The Frog Kingdom will hit theaters this autumn. Shi Banyu, a professional DJ in Taiwan, is the Mandarin voice of Hong Kong comedy star Stephen Chow. Wang Junyi, the second runner-up of The Voice of China, the Chinese version of the Dutch singing contest, sings the theme song. It is written by seasoned Taiwan musician Yao Chien. The film was the brainchild of two local organizations aimed at finding and educating China's own animation artists, namely Vixo Animation, Comics & Games Technology Co, Ltd and Jilin Animation Institute.
Campaign to protect the Yellow River
A campaign to protect the Yellow River, called Beauty China & Yellow River Ecological Culture Project, was recently launched in Beijing by China Cultural Media Group. The project aims to raise Chinese society's awareness of the ecological changes along the river valley, so that they will better protect the ecology and culture there. It will also highlight the people's poor living standards in some remote areas, with the objective of getting help for them. The initiator is scheduled to organize a team of painters to visit areas in the valley to create paintings of the natural beauty and cultural legacy there.
Speakers give new perspectives on city
TEDx Beijing, a local and self-organized program with the spirit of ideas worth spreading, held a speech-sharing event titled Old City, New Soul to discuss the changes of the city. Six change makers and trailblazers shared their innovative ideas of Beijing with about 150 expats and Chinese living in Beijing. The speakers shared on how to help build Beijing into a global bicycle city through innovative methods, how to find a new way of communication via talking with city taxi drivers and on understanding Chinese humor through performance art.
