China
Beijing opposes US bill on island
China firmly opposes the United States' legislation backing Taiwan's bid to join the International Civil Aviation Organization, a spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday. Spokeswoman Hua Chunying said Taiwan's participation in international organizations, including the ICAO, is an internal Chinese matter. Interference from any foreign government, organization or individual is opposed, Hua said.
Libya
Air force colonel shot to death
A Libyan air force colonel was shot dead in the eastern city of Derna, a military spokesman said on Tuesday. Derna is in an area of the North African country plagued by attacks on security officials. Violence has worsened in Libya in the past few months as the Tripoli government struggles to impose its authority on armed militias that helped overthrow former president Muammar Gadhafi in 2011 but now largely act lawlessly.
France
Neo-Nazi taken into custody
A neo-Nazi linked to Norwegian mass killer Anders Behring Breivik was arrested in southwestern France on Tuesday after his wife bought four rifles, raising suspicions he could turn to violence, the Paris prosecutor's office said.
Kristian Vikernes, who is also a convicted murderer from Norway, had in the past received a copy of a manifesto from Breivik, the office and media reports said.
Spain
Police nab most wanted criminal
Spanish police said on Tuesday they had arrested a Briton suspected of leading a drug-trafficking organization, describing him as one of Europe's top 10 most wanted criminals. Brian Charrington was arrested along with his girlfriend and son as part of a police operation in which 13 people were detained between Spain and Venezuela.
