Public 'to judge on PRISM'

China Daily | Updated: 2013-06-28 08:07

Washington's PRISM surveillance program is just like a prism in the real world, reflecting the true face and hypocritical deeds of the United States, and the public will make their fair judgment on the matter, Yang Yujun, spokesman for China's Ministry of National Defense, said on Thursday.

Yang made the remarks on the recently exposed PRISM program at the ministry's monthly news conference. The US conducted cyberattacks on governments, enterprises and militaries worldwide, including China.

"Taking advantage of advanced information technology to seek selfish gains on the one hand, while making groundless accusations of other countries on the other hand, is the kind of double standard that is not conducive to peace and stability in cyberspace," he said.

"Cybersecurity is a comprehensive security challenge, while safeguarding cybersecurity is a common responsibility of all countries."

The PRISM incident reminds China that it should attach greater importance to safeguarding cyberspace and improving its capability in cyberprotection, he added.
