Karzai suspends talks with US

Afghan President Hamid Karzai suspended talks with the United States on a new security deal on Wednesday to protest that his government was being left out of initial peace negotiations with the Taliban to find a way to end the nearly 12-year war. The move could derail the peace process before it has begun.

Armed gang kills 48 in village raid

An armed gang has raided a northern Nigerian village and killed 48 people in an apparent reprisal attack targeting a vigilante group, a state official said on Wednesday. Gunmen moved house to house and took positions atop a hill and opened fire, the official said. Houses were burned, but it was not clear how many.

At least 22 people have been killed in landslides and floods triggered by heavy monsoon rain in remote parts of Nepal, a government spokesman said on Wednesday.
