Calm urged after shooting

Philippine President Benigno Aquino called for calm on Monday amid an escalating dispute with Taiwan over the death of a fisherman from the island in an incident involving the Filipino coast guard. Aquino said Manila's representative office in Taiwan was in talks with officials from Taiwan and had assured them an investigation was being carried out into last week's incident in which the fisherman was shot dead.

Bangladesh

Search ends after collapse

The Bangladesh military says it is ending its search for survivors in the wreckage of an eight-story garment factory building that collapsed last month. Brigadier General Mohammad Siddiqul Alam Shikder said the army will stop working to pull bodies from the rubble on Monday evening.

Libya

Benghazi car bomb claims 15

A car bomb that exploded on Monday in the parking lot of a Benghazi hospital killed at least 15 people and wounded 30, Libya's deputy interior minister said. "Fifteen people have been killed and at least 30 were wounded in the explosion of a car bomb near the hospital," Abdullah Massoud said, citing a preliminary toll.

Turkey

Bombings death toll rises to 48

Turkey recovered on Monday the bodies of two more people killed in the twin bombings near the Syrian border town of Reyhanli, pushing up the death toll to 48 as many others remained missing. The bodies were found in a sewer near the blast zones in the southeastern border town two days after twin car bombings.

Afghanistan

Explosion kills 10 civilians

A roadside bomb hit a bus in southern Afghanistan on Monday, killing 10 civilians, mostly women and children, officials said. Kandahar province's police chief General Abdul Raziq said the blast wounded another 12 people in Maroof district, roughly 60 km northeast of Kandahar.
