Deadly collapses

The collapse of an eight-story building in Bangladesh on Wednesday, which killed at least 87 people, is one of the world's deadliest accidents of this kind in the past 10 years.

April 4 - INDIA: At least 72 people died when a partly built seven-story apartment block collapsed on the outskirts of Mumbai.

Jan 15 - LEBANON: 27 people were killed when a derelict six-story building collapsed in Beirut.

June 1 - BANGLADESH: 25 people died when a building collapsed in Dhaka.

Nov 15 - INDIA: 67 people died and about 100 were injured when a five-story residential building collapsed in New Delhi after a monsoon.

March 29 - ANGOLA: 30 people died and more than 150 were injured when a police building collapsed in Luanda.

Dec 24 - EGYPT: 35 people died when a 12-story building subsided in the northern coastal city of Alexandria.

Jan 5 - SAUDI ARABIA: 76 people were killed when a dilapidated hotel in Mecca collapsed.

April 11 - BANGLADESH: 47 people died and 116 others were listed as missing after an illegally built nine-story factory collapsed in Palash Bari, to the northwest of Dhaka.

2004

Feb 2 - TURKEY: An 11-story apartment collapsed in Konya, central Turkey, killing 92.

2003

Aug 3 - INDIA: At least 31 people were killed when a building collapsed after a gas explosion in Gujarat, northwestern India.
