Photo: Jiayuguan Pass in Gansu province, listed as a world cultural heritage site, is undergoing its largest renovation since it was established 640 years ago, after years of erosion. The cultural heritage protection project has invested 2 billion yuan ($328 million). Jiayuguan is the westernmost part of the Great Wall built during the Ming Dynasty (AD 1368-1644).
