China voices deep concern
A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry on Monday voiced the country's deep concern about the worsening situation in the Central African Republic.
"China is closely watching the development of the situation in the Central African Republic and is deeply concerned about the serious deterioration of the political and security situation in the country," Hong Lei said.
China urged the parties concerned in the African country to consider the fundamental interests of the nation and its people, restore order and safeguard national unity and stability, Hong said.
He stressed that China would like to work with the international community to play a positive role in restoring peace and stability there.
After military clashes broke out in the capital Bangui last week, the Foreign Ministry and the Chinese embassy in the country initiated an emergency response system and offered shelter to Chinese citizens there, Hong said.
So far, 67 of 90 Chinese citizens have left the country. The remainder have decided to stay, Hong said.
The embassy will continue to keep in touch with those who chose to stay and provide them with every possible assistance, Hong said.
