Communist Party of China chief Xi Jinping and other senior leaders on Friday joined lawmakers in panel discussions on the Government Work Report.
The report was delivered by Premier Wen Jiabao on Tuesday when the 12th National People's Congress opened its annual session in Beijing.
While joining NPC deputies from the eastern province of Jiangsu to deliberate on the report, Xi urged the deepening of industrial restructuring and the building of a modern industrial system.
Xi, who is general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, called for the improvement of economic quality and efficiency through addressing surplus production capacity.
Xi said industrialization, urbanization and agricultural modernization should be pushed in a synchronized way.
Vice-Premier Zhang Dejiang urged the deepening of reform and opening-up and the strengthening of cooperation between Guangdong province and the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, during a panel discussion with lawmakers from South China's Guangdong.
Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said ensuring a rich cultural life for people is an important part of improving people's well-being, during a panel discussion with lawmakers from Northwest China's Qinghai province.
Wang Qishan, another member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, called for the acceleration of institutional reform and organization system innovation. Wang made the remarks during a panel discussion with national legislators from Anhui province.
Zhang Gaoli, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, urged the boosting of green, recycling and low-carbon development during a panel discussion with national legislators from North China's Shanxi province.
