11 children die in school bus crash

A school bus collided with a truck filled with bricks in rural northwestern India on Monday morning, killing at least 11 children, police said. Seven died at the scene of the accident in Jaheer, Punjab state, and the other four died of their injuries in a hospital, the Press Trust of India News Agency reported.

Queen spends night in hospital

Britain's 86-year-old Queen Elizabeth II spent Sunday night in a hospital after being admitted for the first time in 10 years as a precaution when she showed symptoms of gastroenteritis. A Buckingham Palace spokesman said the monarch's planned visit to Rome this week was called off.

Suicide bomber slays at least 5

A suicide car bomber struck a police base in the Iraqi city of Mosul, the capital of Nineveh province, on Monday, killing five policemen and wounding 12 people, a provincial police source said. The attack occurred around midday when a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden car into a checkpoint near the entrance of the federal police base in al-Yarmouk district in western Mosul and blew it up.

Supply ship at space station

A SpaceX Dragon cargo capsule overcame a potentially mission-ending technical problem to make a belated but welcome arrival at the International Space Station on Sunday. Astronauts aboard the outpost used the station's robotic arm to pluck the capsule from orbit.

United front formed with US

The United States and Saudi Arabia on Monday presented a united front to Iran and Syria. They warned Bashar al-Assad that they will boost support to rebels unless he steps down and put Iran's leadership on notice that time is running out for a diplomatic resolution to concerns about its nuclear program.

2 planes make emergency stop

Two airliners, one operated by Delta and one by KLM, made separate emergency landings at Schiphol airport on Monday shortly after taking off from the Amsterdam hub, officials said, with no injuries reported.
