By Sun Xiaochen | China Daily | Updated: 2012-10-04 07:42

Maria Sharapova cruised into the last 16 with a supportive crowd following her every move in Beijing.

The Russian world No 2 has been quite popular at the China Open, with large groups of fans waiting outside the practice court for a glance of her, chanting her name and even singing for her between points.

Needless to say, they were pleased when she thrashed Romanian Sorana Cirstea, 6-2, 6-2 in the second round on Wednesday.
