China calls for calm

By Xinhua | China Daily | Updated: 2012-09-17 07:54

China opposes any vilification to Islam and called for dialogue and communication between different civilizations and religions, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said on Saturday.

Hong made the remarks in response to the continuous protests against a US movie deemed to be insulting Islamic Prophet Mohammad, which resulted in bloodshed in some countries.

China has consistently advocated dialogue and communication between different civilizations and religions in the spirit of mutual respect and treating others as equals, said Hong.
