Women's college to expand offerings
Shanghai Women's College, the country's first community college that is exclusively for women, is planning to offer courses in more parts of the city.
The college was established by the Shanghai Women's Federation and Shanghai Municipal Education Commission earlier this year, and aims to give women opportunities to learn throughout their lives. The city's development plan for the years 2011 to 2015 also calls for improving the quality of life of female residents.
The college does not provide degree programs, concentrating instead on giving students training in vocational skills. It has more than 100 courses, offering instruction in subjects such as etiquette, tea ceremonies, flower arranging, cosmetics, Chinese composition, photography and child rearing.
