LUO YUAN, major general and deputy secretary-general of the China Association for Military Science
The confrontation over the sovereignty of the Diaoyu Islands not only involves national feelings but is also a matter of China's strategic interest. And more importantly we should not compromise the victory fruits of World War II.The wise and the brave will win if a confrontation between Beijing and Tokyo is unavoidable. But I don't think there has been a good opportunity for a military solution. Rather, we need measures to take back initiatives, such as reporting Japan and the US to the international court and establishing military exercises around the Diaoyu Islands if necessary.
