Tourism is an important industry in the modern economy, and cities are among the most popular tourist destinations.
To promote tourism development and provide better services to tourists, industry insiders in Beijing proposed an initiative to establish a non-profit, non-governmental organization called the World Tourism Cities Federation, enabling tourism authorities in frequently visited cities to share ideas and experiences.
The initiative has won support from more than 40 cities worldwide. Thanks to these cities' concerted efforts, the founding conference of the federation and the Beijing Fragrant Hills Summit are scheduled to run from Sept 14 through 15. The schedule of events is as follows:
