Rising tide of ocean-related industries

By Li Wenfang in Zhanjiang, Guangdong | China Daily | Updated: 2012-09-08 08:03

Zhanjiang is poised to reap strong returns from the country's push to build its ocean economy.

The efforts will find important support in the plan for comprehensive experimental marine zones in Guangdong province, which was approved by the State Council last year.

In its marine economy development plan for the period 2011 to 2015, the Guangdong government projects the province's ocean economy will grow an average 13 percent annually to generate an annual output of 1.5 trillion yuan ($236 billion) by 2015, accounting for more than 20 percent of the local GDP.
