Ferrer happy to live in shadows

China Daily | Updated: 2012-09-06 08:01

Soft-spoken David Ferrer is happy to be the US Open fourth seed nobody mentions, preferring to let his racket do his talking for him at Flushing Meadows.

Ferrer, 30, reached his fourth Grand Slam quarterfinal of 2012 when he beat France's Richard Gasquet 7-5, 7-6 (2), 6-4 on Tuesday in a last-16 tie that was spread over seven hours because of two lengthy rain delays.

In the absence of former champion Rafael Nadal, he is his country's only hope of a Spanish champion this year. However, only Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray are talked of as tournament winners.
