States urged to protect interests

Leaders of the smallest states in the Pacific were urged on Monday to engage with the world to ensure they are fairly represented in international processes that are crucial to their future.
Secretary-General of the Pacific Islands Forum Tuiloma Neroni Slade told the gathering of leaders of the Smaller Island States that they should look closely at factors that underscored their exposure and vulnerability to global forces affecting the environment and sustainable development of their communities.
The issues laid out for the SIS Leaders Meeting, which opened the 43rd Pacific Islands Forum in the Cook Islands, included:
