Nation will help make peace, says Indonesian ambassador

China-ASEAN ties are not defined by some countries' territorial disputes in the South China Sea, and Indonesia will continue playing an intermediary role to help resolve the issues, Indonesia Ambassador to China Imron Cotan said on Friday.

Negotiations on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea is a priority that related parties urgently need to begin working on, but the code "is mainly made to be a confidence-building measure" and not to resolve the issue, the ambassador told China Daily.

The code would also be a guide for China-ASEAN cooperation, including "devising a plan to jointly explore the potentials of the disputed territories", he added.
