New olympic tradition
The Asian Youth Games is an international multi-sport event organized by the Olympic Council of Asia and held every four years. The games were first hosted by Singapore in 2009.
The council organizes five multi-sport events - the Asian Games, the Asian Winter Games, the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, the Asian Beach Games and the Asian Youth Games.
It was based on a proposal by the International Olympic Committee, which suggested that the council should initiate the Asian Youth Games with the aim of strengthening exchanges and communication among young people, promoting the Olympic spirit and encouraging young people to actively engage in sports, education and cultural programs to develop a healthy lifestyle and sporting spirit.
