Sanctions eased

China Daily | Updated: 2012-07-13 08:10

United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced on Thursday that the US has eased sanctions against Myanmar and begun to allow its investors to do business in the country.

"Today we reviewed progress in Burma and I announced that the United States has eased its sanctions to allow American businesses to invest there," she said in a news briefing after the 19th ASEAN Regional Forum, which was attended by foreign ministers and representatives from 27 countries and ASEAN Secretary-General Surin Pitsuwan.

The decision was made as a result of democratic reforms that the Myanmar government has adopted.
