In the year that has passed since Chinese mainland residents were first allowed to tour Taiwan without a tour group, Taipei-headquartered China Airlines has become the largest shareholder in the cross-Straits air transportation market.
China Airlines has more than 100 destinations in 29 countries and regions around the world. It also links 24 cities on the Chinese mainland to Taiwan, with 108 flights every week shuttling across the Straits.
In Shanghai alone, the company is operating more than 20 flights to Taiwan's Taipei and Kaohsiung cities a week, "but it is still not enough, because Shanghai is one of the major gathering places of Taiwan's businessmen", said Danny Chung, China Airlines' chief representative on the mainland.
