Morimoto has distinct reputation for conservative positions, experts say
Observers said on Monday that Japan aimed to strengthen the partnership between Tokyo and Washington, following the appointment of Satoshi Morimoto as Japanese Defense Minister.
Morimoto, 71, a professor at Takushoku University described as a "pundit" by Kyodo News Agency, replaced Naoki Tanaka, who was criticized by the opposition Liberal Democratic Party over his poor performance during his five-month stint and lack of expertise on security issues.
