Raid on kidney sales nets 11

By Zhou Wenting in Shanghai | China Daily | Updated: 2012-05-30 07:59

Eleven young men suspected of selling their kidneys were taken by police from an apartment in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on Monday.

"We made a record of their statements, and we plan to send them home tomorrow," a police officer named Du, who is working on the case, said on Tuesday.

Chinese laws do not impose punishments on those who sell their own organs. But they do allow statements taken from such people to be used to put those who run an illicit trade in organs behind bars, lawyers said.
