CSRC considers HK-linked ETF

The China Securities Regulatory Commission is considering an application from E Fund Management Co Ltd to start the mainland's first exchange-traded fund tracking the Hong Kong-listed shares of mainland companies. The application for the ETF, linked to the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index, was accepted on Feb 8, according to data posted on the regulator's website.

E Fund, based in Guangzhou, is China's third-largest asset management company with 126.2 billion yuan ($20 billion) of assets as of Sept 30, according to Howbuy, a Shanghai-based fund tracker.

Sunergy makes deal with Bull

China Sunergy Co Ltd, which makes specialized solar cells and modules, on Tuesday announced the execution of a 50-megawatt sales contract with Bull PowerTech GmbH for projects in Europe. It said shipments are expected to be completed this year.

Bull PowerTech, founded in 2006, is a renewable energy company with a focus on photovoltaics.

China growthin the bag

US-based handbag maker Coach Inc said on Tuesday that it would open 30 stores annually in China over the next few years.

Sales from China's 80 Coach outlets account for 6 percent of the company's global sales, said Jonathan Seliger, president and CEO of Coach China. Fiscal 2011 sales in China reached $188 million, and that's expected to rise to $300 million in fiscal 2012.

Tech firm seeks ban on Apple

A Chinese tech company claiming to own the iPad trademark will seek a ban on shipments of Apple Inc's computer tablets into and out of China, a lawyer for the company, Proview Technology (Shenzhen) Co Ltd, said on Tuesday.

Proview triumphed over Apple in a lawsuit in China late last year and is looking to enforce the court ruling.

Proview is petitioning Chinese customs to stop shipments of Apple iPads, lawyer Xie Xianghui told Asian Legal Business, a Thomson Reuters publication.

According to media reports, authorities in some Chinese cities have ordered retailers to stop selling Apple's iPad due to the dispute.
