People forced to answer for debts

Two people recently received criminal sentences for being unable to repay overdue balances on credit cards in Jianye district of Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province.

One of the two, a middle-aged woman surnamed Li, racked up debt trying to win the lottery. She opened seven credit cards with different banks and incurred 50,000 yuan ($7,900) in debt buying lottery tickets. She wanted to improve her life through a big win, but the court decision showed that there is no such thing as easy money.
