BEIJING - Labor law enforcement departments have helped 1.29 million migrant workers get their delayed salaries and compensation of 2.94 billion yuan ($465 million) this year, said Yin Weimin, minister of human resources and social security, on Thursday.
The ministry has asked grassroots authorities to improve handling of labor disputes to ensure the country's 240 million migrants are paid before the Spring Festival, which falls on Jan 23.
The All-China Federation of Trade Unions, the top trade union organization, released a statement on Thursday, asking nationwide unions to make efforts to provide legal assistance to help migrant workers get their wages.
