BEIJING - A senior UN official on Wednesday hailed China's vital contributions to the United Nations, saying that it will play an increasingly important role in the world body.
"The United Nations enjoys very active support from China, and this is very much important and essential to us," Kasymzhomart Tokaev, director-general of the UN Office at Geneva, said in Beijing on Wednesday.
"China is also one of the most important financial donors to the organization, and with almost 2,000 military and police troops contributed to UN peacekeeping operations at the moment, it is the largest contributor among permanent members of the Security Council," he added.
