FJDA: A success in localization

The second largest economy in the world, China has been attracting foreign investment with an overwhelming influx of multinational corporations setting up operations in the past decade, all striving to gain a competitive edge through localization strategies designed to cut costs and improve supply chain, so as to boost sales and, ultimately, profits.
One company that has demonstrated relatively rapid success through localization is Daimler Northeast Asia Limited at its joint venture with Fujian Motor Industry Group Company and the Taiwan-based China Motors Corporation - Fujian Daimler Automotive Co Ltd (FJDA) - which produces Mercedes-Benz Vito and Viano vans.
Officially established in 2007, construction on FJDA's plant was completed in April last year, with the Vito and Viano soon launched in the June, opening up the luxury multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segment in China.
