Tencent won't make phones
Tencent Holdings Ltd has no intention of developing mobile phones or creating a mobile operating system, according to Tel Liu, senior executive vice-president of Tencent's wireless services department.
Liu said Tencent chooses to cooperate with major mobile phone makers rather than produce phones itself.
The company cooperated with Taiwan's HTC Corp to launch HTC ChaCha, which integrates various services, including the instant-messaging service QQ and a Tencent micro blog on the company's mobile phones.
MMH to unveil new tablets
Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc (MMH) will introduce new tablet PCs in China by the end of the year, after its first tablet, the Android-based Xoom, made its debut in the second quarter, said Frank Meng, Motorola Mobility's president for Greater China.
He didn't elaborate on how many models of tablet mod will be available, saying that the company is investigating market demand.
Apple Inc's iPad took 74.3 percent of China's tablet PC market in the second quarter, according to the research company Analysys International.
Resource tax basis changes
China will levy resource taxes based on value and volume, according to a statement on the government's website that cited a meeting of the State Council, or cabinet.
China will adjust the resource tax ratio on crude oil and natural gas, the statement said. China currently levies resource taxes on oil, natural gas exploration and coal mining based on volume.
ChinaTel denies antitrust claims
China Telecom Corp has insisted that its service is in full compliance with local laws, after a report in the Economy and National Weekly said the business is the subject of an antitrust probe.
"The company has always provided its broadband services strictly in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations," said Jacky Yung, a spokesman for China Telecom, in an email on Wednesday.
