Pears give farmers golden opportunity

By Luo Wangshu and Su Zhou | China Daily | Updated: 2011-09-10 08:09

BEIJING - Farmers in a Beijing suburb are reaping a rich financial harvest from their crops of golden pears.

Originally from South Korea, the golden pear is a pollution-free variety of pear widely grown in Daxing district, in the southern outskirts of Beijing.

Thanks to the fruit, the income of farmer Huang Weiyu's family, which tends a 0.2-hectare pear orchard, doubled from 2008 to 2010.
