Province set to break new ground with cooperation

By Chen Xin | China Daily | Updated: 2011-09-07 07:51

East China's Fujian province will work to boost industrial cooperation with Taiwan to lay a more solid foundation for cross-Straits relations, Sun Chunlan, head of the Fujian provincial committee of the Communist Party of China, said.

The State Council approved a development plan for the Western Bank Economic Zone in March this year. Sun said on June 12 at the third Straits Forum in Xiamen that the plan was an important measure the central government had taken to support the zone and Fujian's development.

According to the plan, Fujian will speed up efforts to construct the zone, building the province into a key base for cross-Straits cultural exchange and an important link for cross-Straits transport, said Sun.
